On Dates, Best matches for you sits at the top of Matches. Distance is part of the ranking, and the quiz is how we actually match people. It isn’t in Mates or Double Dates — those modes are for friends and duos, not a dating leaderboard.
New Dates matches show a countdown on the match card, chat list, and chat header. Either of you sending a real message cancels it. If nobody writes in 48 hours, both sides unmatch — even if the phones are closed.
Each profile has a 30-day feed. Tap a YouTube or web preview and it opens in the app. You can still jump to Safari. The owner can reply and delete other people’s replies.
From the chat ⚙ menu, ask them out with time, place, and a note. They see the invite in chat — not your emergency contact — then accept and choose their own reminders.
Optional reminders while you’re out. Miss a vibe? Stop reminders — or tap Get me out of here for a fake incoming call with ringtone so you can exit gracefully.
Discover people, check who’s here at a venue, save favourites (they leave Liked you when you star them). Dating stays capped at 3 open matches so chats stay real.
Matching isn’t an open inbox by default. Each person taps Let’s chat — messages stay undelivered until both sides are in.
Heading out? Save an emergency contact and share a check-in when you want backup — without turning the whole app into constant GPS tracking.
First time you open Mates, you create a mates profile — unique username, relationship status, bio. Name and contact can carry over from Dates; dating details don’t. Switch anytime from Profile.
Open Discover in Mates and you choose — look for mates, or look for activities nearby. It’s the side we want you coming back to: friends, groups, and things to do.
Post a hangout with a suburb (searchable, defaults to home), 1–5 tags, and friends-only or on the wall. Invite people by name. Groups sit under the activities search — public suburb hangouts or private invite-only crews.
Duo partners come from your Mates friends (up to 6), and both must accept. Discover shows both people top and bottom — swipe photos, open each profile. Hearting a duo opens a popup: write a note to your partner, or match only. When all four like, you get a named group chat.
Double Date chats live in their own tab. Unread dots sit on the tab and the conversation. Group messages stay in the group only.
Account settings has two toggles, both off until you turn them on: profile photos (Discover, profiles, feeds, groups) and chat photos. Disappearing photos stay tap-to-view-once. Fake call lets you set the caller name, photo, and a ringtone file you own.
Members can submit a selfie with government ID and a short hand-reveal clip for review — so profiles feel more real before you invest time.
If something feels wrong, report it fast. We keep a chat snapshot for moderation so you’re not stuck explaining a deleted thread from memory.
Sensitive content can require mutual consent — with clear revoke flows and safety prompts if things change.
View-once style media so private pics don’t sit in the chat forever by default.
Date of birth checks on preregister and in-app. Underage reports are treated as urgent.
